Nonprofit to Host Curriculum in New Economic Empowerment Center

DALLAS, TX – 15 Feb, 2017 – Transformance, an integrated financial capability nonprofit organization, is actively seeking young women from grades 6-12 to become part of the nationwide “Girls Who Code” club program, a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology.

Through the Girls Who Code club program curriculum, locations across the country provide free after-school programs for 6th-12th grade girls to use computer science to impact their community and join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. There are approximately 10,000+ enrollees nationwide. Multiple Fortune 500 companies are official partners of the Girls Who Code programs, including Dallas-based Texas Instruments.

“We are very excited to partner with Girls Who Code, as this initiative represents a best-use example for our new Economic Empowerment Center,” stated Yolanda Perez, chief operating officer of Transformance. “Programs such as this touch lives, change trajectories and turn dreams into realities for young women.”

According to the Girls Who Code website, enrollees will learn the Core4 computer science concepts, which form the basis for all computer programming languages, whether building a mobile app, website, software program or robot. Sixty-six percent of club graduates state that they will pursue a major or minor degree in computer science. By 2020, there will be 1.4 million jobs available in computing related fields. U.S. graduates are on track to fill 29 percent of those jobs, but women are on track to fill just three percent.

Young women who are interested in the Girls Who Code program can either sign up through the official website, sign up at http://www.transformanceusa.org/girlswhocode or send an email to Transformance Elizabeth Anderson at eanderson@transformanceusa.org

Transformance’s Economic Empowerment Center is the only local Girls Who Code location not affiliated with a school or library.

New Professions Shifts From Surviving To Thriving

$

“People are built to thrive,” declares Dr. Lee Baucom. But these days, many people feel like they are just surviving. A new profession proposes to make a shift from surviving to thriving.

Some people believe society is in free-fall.  Others think it is simply caught in a temporary malaise.  By any measurement, the past few years have been rocky and difficult many people.  The news is full of tragedies and violence.  The past years has exposed a deep level of division and animosity among people.  Therapists report elevated anxiety and depression in clients, due to a difficult election and ongoing frictions in society.

In fact, recent stories have reported marriages upended by political disagreements.  And some groups of people have heightened levels of hopelessness about the coming years and their potential for progress.

Less than a year ago, the Consumer Anxiety Index hit a 3 year low.  The Better Life Index shows the United States scores a 6.9 out of 10 on Life Satisfaction.  That amounts to a score of less than 70% of life satisfaction.  Hidden in the numbers is the wide spread of scores and satisfaction between various segments of the population.  These numbers are also in spite of the fact that Americans are in the top levels of earning in the world, have better access to health services and live in far more hygienic surroundings than many other countries.

In other words, by objective measures, people are living well.  By subjective indicators, people don’t feel like they are living well, and are experiencing anxiety or depression over social and societal concerns.

Perhaps this age needs a new profession.  One expert suggests “Thriveologists,” experts in helping people to thrive throughout life. Dr. Lee Baucom believes society is ready to make a shift away from just being alive and surviving, to thriving.

In fact, Dr. Baucom has been teaching “Thriveology” courses since 2005.  In his upcoming book, The Thrive Principles, Dr. Baucom outlines 15 principles for building a thriving life.

According to Dr. Baucom, Thriveology is “the art and science of thriving in life.”  He recalls that in a 2003 book Dr. Paul Pearsall proposed a  study of thriving, coining the term, “thriveology.”  But  the term languished a bit.

“Up until then,” Dr. Baucom explains, “I had been studying resilience and was working as a life coach.  I believed that resilience was a good start.  For people who hit major bumps in the road, it is great to get back to normal.  But ‘normal’ just gets people to zero — back to where they were.  In my experience, some people come through those difficult times and move beyond where they were.  They thrive!”  Dr. Baucom believed there was a way to quantify that and teach it.

At that point, Dr. Baucom changed his business card to read, “Thriveologist.”  He states, “I figured I was studying thriving, was applying it to my coaching, and was teaching about it.  It just seemed more honest to say what I was.”

In 2007, Dr. Baucom launched http://Thriveology.com, a place to write his observations and share his thoughts.  Then, in 2013, Dr. Baucom launched the Thrive Nation Podcast, offering his theories through a weekly podcast.  “I was pleased to hear from people from all over the world who wanted something more out of life, who wanted to thrive,” shares Dr. Baucom.  And along the way, it made sense to formulate some principles for people who were ready to thrive.

With the help of Morgan James Publishers, Dr. Baucom is sharing his principles, so that others can thrive.  When asked about why this is so important to him, Dr. Baucom reveals that in 2003, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  He has since recovered, but claims the illness “was a wake-up call” to him.  He shared that although he was studying resilience and thriving, his life was not thriving.

“Honestly,” Dr. Baucom states, “I was out of shape, pretty burned out, and not feeling a lot of purpose.”  After his illness, Dr. Baucom realized he needed to thrive and teach others to do the same.  And he realized that part of thriving was taking care of his body.  Since, Dr. Baucom has turned around his health and says he feels better than he did in his 20’s.  “But,” Dr. Baucom cautions, “we all have a ticking clock.  Our health will eventually catch up with us.  Thriving is not about living forever, but fully living for as long as you have, within the limitations of your body.”

When asked to boil it down, Dr. Baucom states that thriving is really about “taking full responsibility for your life, so that you build a meaningful and purposeful life.  When challenges come, you learn from them, grow from them.  And you commit to making a positive impact on those around you.”

Sounds like a good formula for thriving.

Surgical Review Corporation announces Dr. Greg J. Marchand Becomes First U.S. Surgeon to Receive Award “Surgeon of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery”

RALIEGH, NC – 2/15/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — The Surgical Review Corporation announced today that Dr. Greg J. Marchand, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist dedicated to reducing invasive surgeries, became the first U.S. surgeon to earn a prestigious accreditation for his outstanding record of performing and promoting minimally invasive procedures.  The announcement came via the corporation’s official facebook page.

The Surgical Review Corporation, an internationally recognized medical accreditation company based in North Carolina, named Marchand as the first U.S. “Surgeon of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery” (SOEMIS).

“I am very hopeful that the ‘Surgeon of Excellence’ program will bring more attention to minimally invasive surgery,” the Mesa physician said. “Far too many women are being cut open for procedures that could be performed through minimally invasive means. I am honored to be the first to receive this distinction.”

Typically, the SRC and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists review medical facilities and designate the surgical hospital as a “Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology” (COEMIG). Past recipients have included Kaiser Permanente in California and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania. This is the first time, however, that a designation has ever been given to an individual surgeon.

“We congratulate Dr. Marchand for his accreditation,” says Ashley DuBray, SRC senior director. “To achieve SOEMIS accreditation, Dr. Marchand invited SRC to complete a rigorous onsite inspection and thorough chart review to illustrate his compliance with the program. Dr. Marchand and his practice exemplify SRC’s commitment to patient safety and care.”

In contrast to typical surgical procedures, such as a traditional hysterectomy in which a woman’s abdomen is cut open, the uterus removed and then the incision site sutured, minimally invasive techniques use thin needles, very small incisions and an endoscope to guide the surgical tools through the smaller openings. Trauma to the body and recovery time are both reduced with such surgical options, and patients often leave the hospital the same day as the procedure.

Dr. Marchand’s technique for hysterectomies is so refined that he holds a 2008 Guinness World Record with a partner for removing a 7-pound uterus laparoscopically in 2007. He is also extensively published in medical journals for his support of non-invasive techniques and his innovations in the field of minimally invasive surgery.

ABOUT DR. MARCHAND
Greg Marchand, MD is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He operates at six hospitals in Phoenix’s East Valley. Marchand grew up in Rhode Island and completed a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He is extensively published in gynecologic minimally invasive surgery. Marchand is often featured in local media as a medical expert in gynecological health. Don Sevcik, President and Founder of MathCelebrity.com Reveals His New Book “One Second Math: Homework Help On Demand” On Business Innovators Radio

President and Founder of MathCelebrity.com, Don Sevcik, was the featured guest on Business Innovators Radio with host Mark Imperial talking about his new book “One Second Math: Homework Help On Demand”
donsevcik

On a recent episode of Business Innovators Radio with Mark Imperial, Don Sevcik, President and Founder of MathCelebrity.com, discussed his new book “One Second Math: Homework Help On Demand”.

According to Sevcik, he wrote this book for 2 audiences: 1. Parents who want to learn more about how we built the website and how MathCelebrity.com helps students 2. Entrepreneurs interested in learning real world applications for building a business, particularly in automating a business in ways never thought possible.

Sevcik, said “The book is split into two parts: 1. Part 1 is my story, my motivation, and the building of the business. It’s everything behind what it took over the last 9 years to build a website that solves problems automatically. The highs, the lows, and things I learned. 2. Part 2 is a math book, full of shortcuts, tips, and tricks. I made sure the math book got right to the point, fluff free.”

When host Mark Imperial asked about the significance of the book title, ‘One Second Math’ and how he came up with it, Sevcik answered, “In the introduction of the book, I talk about the blinking of the human eye. Now when you blink, from the time it takes for your eyelids to open and shut is approximately ⅓ of one second. Now here is where it gets interesting: that is the exact time it takes on our website to run a math problem and display on the screen in front of you, the exact, step-by-step math work for a student. I rounded the time up to a full second, because people understand whole numbers, and the phrase One Second Math stuck, because it is exactly what MathCelebrity does. It solves your problems in less than one second.”.

During the Interview Sevcik shared the spark for the idea behind the website, explaining, “In 2007, I worked in a boring tech job. The book opens in one of those mundane meetings typical in a corporate setting. I grew tired of the corporate process and the lack of a meritocracy. In the book, I call it “chasing the carrot” where a boss dangles a carrot in front of you as your raise. You chase and chase, but you never quite get there. The marker is always moved, just out of your reach. Anyway, to branch out and earn more money, I started math tutoring on the side. 1 client grew into 2, 2 grew into 4, and it expanded from there. I ran out of hours in the day to serve anybody else. I did not want to give it up, but I also couldn’t abandon my day job at the time. This part of the book explains how I turned frustration into motivation. I think this part of the book will resonate well with a target audience. This audience contains anybody who works a corporate job and they find themselves frustrated with the review process. At the same time, this person dreams of starting their own business where they are rewarded based on merit. I call it the alternate universe. And in this universe, you are free from corporate politics and silly annual reviews. The money you earn is yours, and you are limitless in how much you can earn.”

Don Sevcik is the President and Founder of MathCelebrity.com and Author of the new book “One Second Math: Homework Help On Demand”.

The interview concluded with Sevcik saying to aspiring Entrepreneurs “Manage your time, find what works, and do more of it. Find what doesn’t work, and if it can’t be improved or does not show a return on investment, don’t beat yourself up. Discard it and move on. One of the hardest things to correct in human nature is admitting you are wrong. This is step 1. Step 2 is focus on what grows your business.”

Mr. Sevcik offers buyers of the book half off his premium monthly membership for the math tutoring quiz generators, practice problem generators, or flashcards. For Entrepreneurs, on offer is a free consultation to anybody interested in learning more about his coaching group for math tutoring and coaching group for entrepreneurs.

MIAMI, FL – 2/16/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — At eight years of age, Lucas Ryan was like any other boy — he played outside, enjoyed video games, and being with his friends. On February 4, 2013, things changed. Lucas was diagnosed with High-Risk Lymphoblastic T-cell Lymphoma and given six months to live. He was in a battle for life — which is what he’s titled his first book. It may seem incredible for a young man at the age of eight facing the daily challenge just to stay alive to have the drive to write a book — but he did. “The Battle For Life” is an inspiring tale that tackles real world challenges and battles set in a fantasy world with exciting characters, which include wizards, sorcerers, and a dragon. Lucas’ goal was to help readers, both young and old, understand and better cope with what might seem frightening.

“A portion of the proceeds from the book, go to The Lucas Ryan Foundation. It benefits kids that are battling pediatric cancer as well as their families — whatever they need,” Lucas’ mother, Gratziela Lazarov said. The Lucas Ryan Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps provide financial assistance to the families of the children battling cancer. It also offers support in helping reduce the effects of isolation and fear of life-threatening illnesses. The Foundation hosts multiple events throughout the year, and funds are used to increase awareness of pediatric cancer.

In the spring of 2014, Lucas appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America while still battling the disease. He also appeared on WSVN 7’s Deco Drive, a South Florida-based news magazine show, to promote his book. Now in remission, Lucas is interested in pursuing creative writing and is taking online courses at Duke University, while still in sixth grade. He’s completed the follow up “The Battle For Life,” the second book in a trilogy, and has recently begun a podcast with his friend, sixteen-year-old Jeremy Posner, which is streamed live on Facebook. The duo discusses sports and pop culture.

Lucas has plenty more planned including a travel show, a video game, and the development of his books into films. He is also a motivational speaker having spoken to medical students at Nova Southeastern University, among many others.

HiMama Celebrates 75 Million Moments Shared with Families

$

17.02.2017 – HiMama, an app used by daycare, childcare and early learning programs, has recently surpassed the milestone of 75 million moments shared with families. While HiMama has focused its growth in North America, the app is currently used by thousands of childcare and early learning programs across the world.

Originally designed in 2013 for parents to record, share and relive their child’s moments, HiMama has since been implemented by thousands of daycares and preschools to keep parents in the loop on their child’s activities. Preschool teachers use the app to record everything from children’s health and well-being, such as meals, nap times and behavior, to their learning and developmental activities.

Many childcare facilities and preschool programs are using the HiMama app to help parents maintain peace of mind about their child while they’re at work, but also to improve quality and efficiency of their own operations. The app has several notable features that have grabbed the attention of both early childhood education experts, as well as modern parents.

Efficient preschool documentation

Preschool teachers can record photos, videos and other activities of children throughout the day and report updates to parents immediately or at the end of the day. There is no longer a need for teachers to prepare handwritten documents, resulting in more quality interactions with the children and less time writing notes.

Online portfolios and development assessments

Early childhood educators spend a significant amount of time compiling the outcomes of children’s work, like binders with child portfolios, attendance reports, and developmental assessments. Due to the time-consuming nature of compiling this information, it will often be skipped altogether. The automated reporting with HiMama creates these important learning and development outputs instantly without any additional effort by the educator.

Automatic updates and reports to families

The HiMama app automatically updates parents about the progress of their child. Digital communications with parents comes in the form of real-time updates, digital daily reports, two-way messaging, and SMS text alerts, allowing parents to stay connected with their children no matter where they are.

Accessible for both preschool teachers and parents

HiMama has maintained a philosophy of keeping the app accessible to both teachers and parents. For teachers, in addition to iPads and Android tablets, the app can also be used on smartphones, as well as on Kindle tablets that are cost-effective options for any childcare program. For parents, they can access information and updates on the HiMama Parent app or the himama.com website, but also via email.

About HiMama

HiMama is an app for childcare and early learning programs that aims to empower teachers and engage families. Preschool teachers use the app to record children’s activities and learning to keep parents in the loop with messages, photos, videos and reports. HiMama seeks to improve learning and developmental outcomes for infant to preschool children by giving teachers the tools they need to manage their class and providing parents the information they need to engage in their child’s learning and development.

HELLAS CONSTRUCTION HELPS BRING FOOTBALL BACK TO UAB

$

AUSTIN, TX – 17 Feb, 2017 – Blazer football is back at University of Alabama Birmingham after a three year absence and practice on the new Blazer synthetic turf field is starting soon. Hellas Construction’s installation of the new practice field with its Matrix turf with Cushdrain

padding was completed last week just in time for Spring practices to begin. The Blazers will finally be playing football again this fall after their program was taken away in 2014, but reinstated after an outcry and donations from the community, alumni, coaches, and players.

Their first priority after reinstatement of the football program was getting a good practice field. Blazers Head Coach Bill Clark said, “The players came out and checked out the field. They said it’s the best they have been on.” He said the team is looking forward to practices on this field. They previously had two practice fields, both natural grass, but one didn’t drain well and the other was not even regulation size, so they had to practice at Legion Field most of the time.

“We were wasting too much money driving buses to Legion Field about 15 minutes away,” said Clark. Clark had been to a Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium and experienced their synthetic turf. He wanted that turf for their fields, which was made by Hellas Construction. So when the architects were hired, he told them that he would like Hellas Construction’s turf to be on the list of possibilities. Hellas was eventually selected and the Matrix® turf with Helix technology and a Cushdrain® padding was installed.

Back in 2014, the Blazer football team had just become bowl eligible for a second time, and it was Clark’s first year. Coaches, players, alumni and the community were devastated when the University Board of Trustees decided to end the football program. “There was a huge outcry from fans across the country and alumni. People rose up and fought,” said Clark. They decided to also take action by raising money to help bring the program back. They created the UAB Athletic Foundation, http://www.uab.edu/footballfacility, and citizens stepped in and made it happen.

After the fierce opposition and $13 million was raised to cover the football budget for five years, the university decided to reinstate the UAB Blazer football program in 2015, but it’s not until fall 2017 they actually get to start playing. Clark had his first recruiting class in 2015, and they had practices in spring and fall 2016. The amount raised has continued to rise until now it is up to $42 million, which will help cover the costs of the new facilities and upgrades the program has planned. One of the next additions will be an indoor practice field, which will also be installed with Hellas Construction’s turf system.

“I think it’s extremely deserving for these guys to have this facility on campus. Being a part of this is really special,” said Amy Champion, business development manager for Hellas Construction. “UAB is the centerpiece of Alabama to Hellas. I am excited to be a part of this,” said Champion. Champion was previously a former coach at UAB for ten years. She said, “To be back and a part of this historical event with football coming back to UAB and Hellas providing the facilities is very moving and personal for me.”

The team’s first game is September 2, 2017, against Alabama A&M. Go Blazers!

Benbrook, TX – Providing a comprehensive guide on how to login to snapchat online from a PC, Online Login Reviews Inc. offers its own resource for the avid Snapchat users. As an app that has gained a wide following by providing an outlet for snap image connectivity for family and friends, Online Login Reviews Inc. aims to give individuals reliable information on how to access Snapchat without having to pick up their smartphone.

Since the app’s inception, Snapchat has gained a wide following of over a hundred million users and counting. The appeal of connectivity and togetherness through snap photos shared with family and friends has made Snapchat a popular means of communication and messaging for many. However, while guides on how to install the app on a smartphone are abundant, fewer individuals have knowledge of how to perform a Snapchat login on a computer.

Online Login Reviews Inc. offers a solution. Providing reliable information on how to perform an official Snapchat sign in on the web, the review site has recently released a detailed resource guide. In addition to information on how to install the popular app via Android and iOS, the site shares instructions on how to login to Snapchat using a computer, as that information has been scarcer.

The site offers readers easy-to-use instructions using official methods on how to login to Snapchat online. Unlike the occasional fake website spreading inaccurate login methods, Online Login Reviews Inc. provides verifiable information. In addition, the site provides guidance on how to access other Snapchat settings on a PC, including password reset, features, and how to use the app once users have logged in. In recognition that not every PC functions the same, the site also provides links that correspond to different systems, including those individuals who wish to access Snapchat through Windows or Manymo, among others.

“Our aim is to give Snapchat users trustworthy information on how to login online,” one creator behind the site comments. “While almost everyone knows how to use it on their phones, not as many people know that they can also login through a PC. Our guide provides access to proper instructions so people can enjoy the app wherever they are, with or without their phone.”

Offering a comprehensive guide on how to access Snapchat online, Online Login Reviews provides avid users with just the information they need to be able to stay connected with their friends and family through multiple devices.

SAN DIEGO, CA – 21 Feb, 2017 – Education Systems, Inc. announces that West Virginia State University, a 4-year traditional public institution of over 2,900 students will be using EMAS Retention Pro to drive student success.

Ms. Kelley Toledo, Director or of Counseling and Academic Support Service, explains the selecting EMAS Retention Pro when she states “We reviewed many retention products on the market, and kept coming back to EMAS Pro. The ease of use, data available, communication options, and tracking it provides will be a tremendous benefit to our institution.”

Ms. Toledo further explained, “We have also had a good experience on our campus with the support EMAS has provided using the Recruitment product.”

Poor student attendance is a common indicator of risk for persistence. WVSU will now leverage EMAS Retention Pro to send an alert to the student AND the provider (in this case, the instructor and adviser) to trigger an alert when the “Number of Days Absent” reaches a certain limit.  With EMAS Retention Pro, WVSU is creating Communication Plans at the beginning of term, for every individual student or student segment. These plans can be based on data model risk scores, student attributes or any other specific criteria and be scheduled to be sent automatically.

Other key features include:

• Predictive modeling and scoring to help identify students likelihood to persist
• Early alerts for at-risk students and their support providers
• Customizable communication plans
• Ability to send engagement notifications via email, calls and text
• Ability for multiple support providers to collaborate on retention efforts for the students they have in common

Steve Cadigan Leads Launch of Silicon Valley’s New ISDI Digital University™

MENLO PARK, CA – 21 Feb, 2017 – Steve Cadigan, accomplished Talent Executive and Founder of Silicon Valley-based Cadigan Talent Ventures, announced today he has taken his passion and commitment to talent development a step further by co-founding Silicon Valley’s new ISDI Digital University. ISDI will offer a Master’s Degree in Internet Business (MIB) starting this Spring. The first of its kind in the United States, the MIB will be delivered to students by some of Silicon Valley’s top tech and business leaders.

“As a talent leader in Silicon Valley, I can attest to the great shortage of digital professionals as well as the increasing number of professionals in all areas who are feeling that the digital economy is passing them by. ISDI Digital University was created to solve this problem. I am delighted to bring a solution to the table that will prepare the next generation of digital leaders in a practical and real world educational setting,” said Steve.

Since founding CTV, Steve has been an advisor to numerous private and public sector entities, including Twitter, Google, Andreesen Horowitz and GoPro in the United States and abroad. Perhaps most importantly, he is a gifted mentor and connector. “Steve truly has a passion for engaging with students and colleagues that wish to pursue digital careers. While at LinkedIn, Steve led the organization to grow from 400 to 5,000 employees, and compete with today’s elite technology companies. We are confident he will relay to students the strategies behind growth, and his passion will help,” said Nacho de Piñedo, Founder of ISDI Spain.
