Arab & American Youth Anti-Terrorism Org. Launches “PeacePals: BFFs Beyond Borders”

WASHINGTON, DC – 21 Feb, 2017 – American and Arab lead youth counter-terrorism organization, Defeating Islamic Radicalization and Extremism (DIRE) today announces ‘PeacePals: BFFs Beyond Borders’ (PPBBB), its newest solution based, ‘soft power’ long-term strategic youth program aimed at sowing seeds to create cross-cultural unity and ultimately combat ideological based extremism.

Over the course of a rolling 90 day period, beginning Sunday, Feb. 26, the elementary school children focused program kicks off in its first pairing of seven nations and seven US states, beginning with Yemen/Tennessee and Somalia/Louisiana. Launching the following week: Iran/Alabama, Iraq/Arkansas, Libya/Kentucky, and Syria/Mississippi, Teachers will be encouraged to keep the program alive beyond the program timeframe.

Participating schools and teachers will be encouraged to have their students, grades K-6, write a first letter of introduction to start the basis of a new friendship across what is expected to be largely Christian and Muslim students, and all students are welcome. Letters in each direction will be sent weekly over the course of 12 weeks (90 days).

PP/BBB will open a channel of communication between elementary girls and boys in order to begin the process of finding common ground and bridge building toward instilling as a natural habit and to prove that the human spirit, particularly that of open minded and resilient youth, can transcend misunderstanding, prejudice, hardship, and chaos.

Beyond the pure nature of the program between youth in the Mid/Far East and USA, the nations and states were selected to draw attention to the fact that any arrivals ban will be nothing more than a prevention exercise that ultimately aims to keep citizens, new arrivals, and friends of the world, safe and secure. In-kind sponsors of creative materials for participating schools in any of the 14 nations/states are sought. Additional nations and states beyond the 14 are encouraged to join the PeacePals effort.

Lisa La Bonte, President of DIRE, believes, “Regardless of any potential 90 day travel ban temporarily affecting citizens of seven nations, if anyone believes for 90 seconds any such action will stop the love and friendship from flowing across borders, they underestimate the spirit and optimism existing in the world, particularly within children.”

Yemeni education expert and PPBBB Project Lead, Dr. Saleh Elzahiri added, “Focusing on solution based programs such as PPBBB could be a shining start point in building bridges between American children and children from the far mid-east nations, which would drive a positive connection between cultures and spread the notion of peace and love among children despite their geographic location, race, or religion.”

HELLAS AWARDS FIRST GRANT WITHIN 30 DAYS OF STARTING PROGRAM

AUSTIN, TX – 21 Feb, 2017 – Hellas Construction awarded it’s first grant for an athletic field to Tenino High School in Tenino, WA, within 30 days of officially starting its new Hellas grant program. The program was started in late January, after parting ways with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, to help in funding sports facilities offering a variety of sports.

Seaton implemented this grant program to assist a wide variety of non-profit/tax exempt organizations with building various sports, mini-sports fields, or playgrounds in neighborhoods and cities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. “There was a need for a grant program that was not limited to one sport,” said Seaton. “We already install fields and sport surfaces for football, baseball, softball, track, even mini-sport fields and playgrounds,” he said. “It just made sense to open up an avenue for these well-deserved organizations in all different sports to get assistance,” Seaton said.

Cowboys for Kids (CFK) has a group of dedicated people from all walks of life who volunteer their time and talents to the organization’s many fund raisers and children’s projects such as Family Fall Fest, Santa’s Helper Program, Pumpkin People project, Stick Horse Races, Auction, Bull Riding, Sheep & Steer Riding, Rodeo, Youth Scholarships, fun trips to special events and more. If funds are available, one person is eligible for a small salary; Nearly 100% of all funds raised go directly to projects. The dedication of our supporters has allowed us to donate more than $95,000 in monetary funds to Phoenix area children. The amount is higher when you include services rendered and non-cash
donations such as clothes, food, toys, etc. The Santa’s Helper program has reached hundreds of children and the Youth Scholarships provide a helping hand to many deserving students. Cowboys for Kids also provides children and adults a chance to experience the old west — to be a “cowboy for a day.” In our country’s recent past, the cowboy and the rodeo were a way of life. We try to keep that spirit alive and preserve the cultural and historical place of the American Cowboy
for future generations to enjoy.

Warrior Makers Close-Quarters-Combat School Opens its Doors in Plano, Texas

PLANO, TX – 24 Feb, 2017 – Military vet and martial arts expert opens combatives school offering self-defenses classes in Dallas for women and individuals interested in hand-to-hand combat training.

Warrior Markers Combatives School has recently opened its doors to serve the community of North Dallas by offering hands-on training in the Roku Jutsu System. Developed by Chris Harris, the system features techniques pulled from six different styles of Martial Arts that he trained in over the years with each technique being selected based on its simplicity, practicality, and effectiveness. This effective system was once offered to elite clientele only, but as the school’s head instructor, Harris is now focused on teaching it to those living in and around the Plano, Texas area.

Harris began Martial Arts training in 1978 and has been professionally training Special Forces, Military, Law Enforcement and Federal Agencies since 1993 in Roku Jutsu. This system incorporates visual, audible, and kinetic teaching methods simultaneously, which equips students who have no prior training with a natural and instinctive skill set in a very short amount of time.

Having lived in North Texas for the last 10 years, he felt it was time to offer his system to members of his community who are looking to effectively defend themselves or their loved ones against a physical attack.

“Because of the simplicity, practicality, and effectiveness of the Roku Jutsu Combative’s System and because of our proprietary teaching methods, these skills are obtained in months, not years,” explains Head Instructor, Chris Harris.

It’s noted that 1 in 3 women will experience unwanted sexual contact in their lifetime. The importance of the boundary-setting dynamic is crucial, notes UO sociologist Jocelyn Hollander, who lead a study on self-defense expressing that “most unwelcome sexual contact doesn’t involve a stranger jumping out of the bushes.” In fact, it more often involves an acquaintance or even someone closer – face-to-face or arms length.

Her 2013 study found that “women who took a ten-week self-defense training were significantly less likely to experience unwanted sexual contact than those who didn’t.”

Harris supports this claim saying, “Nobody should be able to put their hands on you without your permission.” His school is focused on providing the essential hands-on training need to protect oneself or others, quickly and without fear.

The training classes are now available to anyone 13-years-old and up, with group and private lessons available with no contract. Women’s Self-Defense Seminars are also available for groups of 10 or more and feature hands-on self-defense training for women in a condensed four-hour session, ideal for company or college settings. National Bee Research Lab Workshop Aims to Prevent Bee Losses

COLUMBIA, MISSOURI – 24 Feb, 2017 – The Missouri State Beekeepers Assocation (MSBA) is presenting a hands-on workshop aimed to teach beekeepers how to identify common disease and pest problems in the hive. Dr. Jay Evans from the National Bee Research Lab will take the group through a post-mortem hive assessment, look at signs of Varroa and Nosema, and look under the microscope at American and European Foulbrood.

According to a February 16, 2016 article in the New York Times, ‘in the year that ended in April 2016, 44 percent of the overall commercial bee population died. In a typical year before the plague, only 10 percent to 15 percent would have died’. The MSBA is working to educate its members and the public about how to stem this trend and prevent further losses.

The cost to attend the workshop and luncheon is $65 for members and $75 for non-members.
