Academy for Dental Assistants Shows their Appreciation to our Troops

In recognition of the outstanding service of the U.S. Military, Academy for Dental Assistants Florida Dental Assisting School will be hosting a new scholarship for individuals whom have served, are serving, or are immediate family members of past or present service members. The Tampa-based technical school offers the $1000 Educational Scholarship to show their appreciation to members and the families of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, and U.S Coast Guard.

The Academy for Dental Assistants provides high-quality, state-approved programs for dental healthcare employees who wish to enter the field with higher prospects or accelerate their career with professional training and certification. Scholarship funds will be awarded to eligible individuals in the form of a $1000 voucher that will go towards tuition for The Academy for Dental Assistants 12-Week Dental Assistant Training Program being held in October 2017. Funds are non-transferable and can only be used for the 12-week Training Program in October.

Eligibility – You Must Act Fast!

Selection Process

Recipients for the 2017 Academy for Dental Assistants $1000 Education Scholarship will be chosen from among the applicants by a Scholarship Committee appointed by the Director of Academy for Dental Assistants. Each application will be considered individually by the Scholarship Committee and made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, religious belief, national origin, rank, or service of the sponsor.

Upon accepting the scholarship voucher, the recipient will be giving Academy for Dental Assistants permission to use the recipient’s application essay for use in Academy’s publications, newsletter, website, social media, and marketing materials, etc.

12-Week Dental Assistant Training Program

The 12-week program requires no prior experience and will prepare the individual for employment in a dental office as an Extended Functions Dental Assistant. Students will be trained in the proper use of equipment, the procedures involved in dentistry, and how to assist a dentist as they treat patients. After the 12-week program, students complete a 200-hour internship before being awarded their Florida state-approved EFDA and X-Ray Certification.

The course is a web hybrid format consisting of an independent study portion as well as hands-on training with dental experts once a week. Students are free to study online materials at home and attend the Academy for Dental Assistants training program in a top-ranked technical facility to apply their knowledge and gain the experience and confidence it takes to become a healthcare professional.

Recently, the book volume Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Interactions, A Treasure of Gilt Copper Buddhist Statues, published by Zhonghua Book Company and co-sponsored by the National Museum of China and the National Palace Museum, has been collected by Columbia University, specifically its C. V. Starr East Asian Library. Up until now, at least six different libraries of Ivy League schools, including Yale University and University of Pennsylvania, have included this academic book about Chinese gilt bronze Buddha statues as part of their collections.

The publication of books such as Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Interactions, A Treasure of Gilt Copper Buddhist Statues and Han Chinese Style and Tibetan Taste The Art of the Gilt Copper Buddha Statues of Ancient China, that were then collected by the libraries of prestigious universities in the U.S., were sponsored by the Chinese private gilt bronze Buddhist Statue collector Mr. Li Wei in 2009. As early as 2009, Mr. Li donated 22 invaluable gilt bronze Buddha statues and Buddhist instruments from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the National Museum of China, and hosted a news conference at the Great Hall of the People on the subject. In the same year, the book volume Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Interactions, A Treasure of Gilt Copper Buddhist Statues, which was published by Zhonghua Book Company and sponsored by Li Wei, in partnership with the National Museum of China and the National Palace Museum, was released onto domestic and foreign book market. The book won numerous notable awards including the second Chinese Government Award for Publishing, awarded by The Chinese General Administration of Press and Publication, and the fifth Chinese Publishing Group Award, awarded by multiple reputable publishing groups in China. The entire series of books has also won many other awards in China. Thus, the book has been collected by more than a dozen universities and cultural institutions, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, Tibet University, Fo Guang University in Taiwan, the National Museum of China and the National Palace Museum.

In 2010, the TV series National Treasures Archive, broadcasted by Chinese Central Television International Channel (CCTV-4), reported on the content of the book as well as the personal background of the statues collector Li Wei in two episodes. In 2011, Collection of Gilt Bronze Buddha Statues was reprinted in the second edition by the Forbidden City Publishing House of the Palace Museum in Beijing. Charlotte, NC – Tomeka Lynch Purcell knows finances.  Not only does she have a degree in Financial Management, plus 16 years of real estate, asset and credit management behind her, she also has a personal rags-to-riches story that’s worth sharing. At age 17, she became a single mother. Her finances were dwindling, she had no savings, and her net worth (as she puts it) was “in the negative.” What she did have was worth far more than money: determination. Tomeka put herself to work, seeking out knowledge about budgeting, financial management, and investments. Today, she acquires a yearly income of six figures and is living the life she always dreamed of.  Tomeka now spends her days focusing on, what she considers the “forgotten” demographic: the black woman.

“I was talking to a friend who grew up in a wealthy household,” says Tomeka. “She learned about budgeting, finances, and was taught the importance of investing from birth. Her family had developed and imparted a culture of wealth. So many people today are missing that mindset. My goal is to help cultivate these incredible minds that, I believe, just need that missing piece of know-how to build the wealth of their dreams.”

Tomeka is CEO and founder of Credit Solution Services, a financial management and consulting firm that caters to this overlooked demographic. Her Budget Babes Facebook group and C.A.S.H. Mentoring Program are designed to give women the resources and motivation they need to take the suitable steps to prosperity. She also offers specialized credit and debt management services where she provides a simple, personalized debt management plan that helps clients to review, address, and diminish debt. “I have been broke, in debt, and struggling to feed my children,” says Tomeka. “But now I have savings, a career I enjoy, and am able to help others. I just want people to know that if I can do it, so can they” and I can teach you how.

With these irons in the fire it seems impossible that she could be doing more, and yet this married mother of three is also a bestselling author who has just released her latest, a children’s book, titled Morgan Saves for College. Through this effort, Tomeka hopes to help youth better understand about savings and financial goals. In addition to her book release, Tomeka is also gearing up for her 2017 Free Your Mind Women’s Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.  This event will feature speakers and personalities whose focus is to motivate and empower Black women into finding their story and voice.

How does she does she do it all? “I work a 30 hour day,” she jokes. This financial powerhouse is doing more than just pushing projects. She’s building a legacy of hard work, awareness and purpose. “My goals in life have always been more than just getting ahead. I’ve always wanted to help others climb that ladder with me. Whether it’s my coaching or my writing, my passion is building a path for others that will take their money and lifestyles where they need and want to go.” And she’s doing just that.

NY-based startup ABC and UP has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in support of its new innovative Cool Cursive. It’s a cursive Flashcard game which is aimed to “Make America Write Again” and to reintroduce children to the amazing cognitive and motor benefits of writing and reading cursive script. Educational yet fun, the game can be played by kids and adults alike.

The crowdfunding campaign is geared to raise $12,000 by October 3, 2017, and is already nearly halfway toward its goal.
