Chris Brummer has started a new professional blog, “Hedged Positions,” offering insights from one of Washington’s leading commentators on new and overlooked developments for international finance, Fintech, economics and international trade.  The Blog is found on his new website chrisbrummer.com.

Chris Brummer is Agnes N. Williams Research Professor and Faculty Director of Georgetown’s Institute of International Economic Law. Founded by the late John Jackson, the IIEL is one of the world’s leading centers for the study of international trade, and operates as a hub of professional, regulatory and scholarly activity at the Georgetown University Law Center.  It also offers executive education programming for attorneys the world over. 

Prior to joining Georgetown’s faculty with tenure in 2009, Brummer was an assistant professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School. He has also taught at several leading universities as a visiting professor including the universities of Basel, Heidelberg, and the London School of Economics. 

Professor Brummer has worked for a number of think tanks on issues as diverse as renminbi internationalization, EU-US coordination of financial rules, and capital access and financial technology. 

After serving as a member of FINRA’s National Adjudicatory Council, Professor Brummer was nominated twice by President Obama in 2016 and 2017 to serve as a Commissioner on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He received unanimous, bipartisan approval in the vote by the Senate Agriculture Committee, though no floor vote was immediately scheduled after the election. The nomination was subsequently withdrawn by President Trump. 

Professor Brummer lectures widely on finance and global governance, as well as on public and private international law, market microstructure and international trade. Mr. Brummer is the author of several books, most recently Minilateralism: How Trade Alliances, Soft Law and Financial Engineering are Redefining Economic Statecraft (2014).  

Chris Brummer earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he graduated with honors, and he holds a Ph.D. in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago. Before becoming a professor, he practiced law in the New York and London offices of Cravath, Swaine &Moore LLP.

What is your background?

Family business was in property based in Malaysia. Had solid foundation from the start. Was until I got my first property that made me so passionate.

I started sensing the potential of Australian Real Estate market and found it so fascinated. I believe that dedicating my time and efforts on something u love is important. I do not see this as a 9 to 5 job but a hobby. Thus, I changed my job as a lawyer and start working in Real Estate industry

Why Melbourne?

By chance, I came to Melbourne, the 1st impression was it’s a very lively city and of course the most liveable city in the world.  i just fell in love with Melbourne at the 1st sight.  Melbourne properties are not as expensive as Sydney or other states and the turnover rate is very high.  You are able to bridge up Australia properties and investors.  Although the properties market soared dramatically in the last decade, it still has potential to go up. 

Why Real Estate?

Sydney and Melbourne property prices have exploded this decade is an understatement. The gravity-defying elevation of house-price medians in both cities ­embarrasses analysts, academics and the apocalyptic, who have at various times gleefully predicted either a bubble and crash or a bubble and plateau. Look at property market in Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and other Asian countries, the hypothesis is “you’ll see tremendous property growth when there are Asian”.  The terms of Property Market is not only interpreted onto Real Estate selling, it is also applied on Property management. – Capital growth as well as secured income (asset ‘rich dad poor dad)

What do you know about Property management?

I’ve spent over 5 years on PM, people absolutely need this service. There are lack of professional would be able to explain or have an understanding of the Australian /Melbourne PM service market.  There are only limited no. of people in Melbourne are able to provide excellent service to investors.  Look at the market there are so many foreign investors in Australia, we are here to help them and educate them so that every decision they make are made with confidence and to provide them with excellent service.

Future plan?

We are securing a body corporate contract (known as strata management in Sydney) in a Joint Venture development Sydney. Looking into developments as well. My Motto is, “To become a market leader in Australia Property of the highest quality. “To Serve With Passion”.

Student Becomes National Officer at FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN July 2nd – 6th

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – 11 Jul, 2017 – Caroline Caldwell, a homeschooled senior from, Sterling City, has been elected the 2017-2018 National Vice of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Caroline is one of ten national officers elected during the 2017 National Leadership Conference, held July 2-6 in Nashville, TN. Being elected a national officer is the highest leadership honor an FCCLA member can achieve. 

Caroline’s election took place during a five-day leadership event centered on the theme, “Unlimited Possibilities.” During the week, more than 7,500 FCCLA members, advisers, alumni, and guests attended workshops and sessions on relevant youth issues such as career preparation, financial literacy, environmental education, traffic safety, community service, and leadership development.

Along with nine other members of the National Executive Council, Caroline will travel to FCCLA national headquarters in Reston, Virginia, during the year to attend training and program planning sessions. Caroline will also help set policies and develop future goals for the organization as a committee member of the FCCLA National Board of Directors. During the year, Caroline and the other national officers will represent the organization by leading workshops and giving speeches locally and throughout the country, in addition to helping plan the focus and content of FCCLA’s 2018 National Leadership Conference, to be held June 28 – July 2, 2018 in Atlanta, GA.

NCAA DIVISION I SCHOOL TROY UNIVERSITY SELECTS HELLAS Z5000 EPIQ TRACKS

AUSTIN, TX – 13 Jul, 2017 – Troy University in Alabama is making track renovation a priority this summer, selecting Hellas Construction to install a new track in its Jesse H. Colley Track/Soccer Complex. Troy University is a NCAA Division One university, part of the Sun Belt Conference and typically sends athletes to compete at the national level every year.

Marc Davis Director of Track and Field for Troy University said, “When I came here three years ago I said that renovating the complex was definitely a priority. The complex was in need of work years before I came, but they were unable to get it passed in the budget. The university is now taking action to get the track back in shape. It has been a three-year process and I am thankful it’s happening now.”

They selected Hellas’ epiQ Tracks® Z5000 track system, a 15mm full pour system for its eight-lane, 400-meter track and field events. “This should open doors for more hosting opportunities for the university. We are the only competition track within a 45 minute to a one-hour radius. The local high school uses our track for their competitions too,” Davis said.

The university has been losing out on income opportunities, due to the track not being competition ready. They are unable to host events because of the worsening of the condition of the track. Davis said the track has been patched in different areas and has bubbles on parts of the track.

“Right now, the whole area is losing out. The track is in need of so much work, we don’t want to host anything and put any athlete’s safety in jeopardy,” Davis said. “We use some of it for training right now, but we are only able to use one side of the runway,” he said.

Davis said, “This will open lots of doors that haven’t been available to us in a couple of years. It will open up a whole new world for us. We will be able to host meets here instead of having to travel for every meet. We can host camps to bring in athletes, which will help with recruiting for our program. We can bring back some of the events we used to host.”

The Colley facility at Troy University used to host many events including Coach O Invitational, Special Olympics, Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Championships, and the U.S. Junior National State Championships.

“This is going to improve our program and what we as a university have to offer. Our team is getting better every year and it will be great for the kids that have been here so long and suffered because of the condition of the track to finally have the facilities they deserve,” Davis said.

Hellas has installed the epiQ Track Z5000 track system at various universities such as Florida A&M, Arkansas State University, Angelo State University, and at Prairie View A&M, where Olympic Athletes were able to practice before attending the Rio 2016 Olympics.
